Raymond van Barneveld

Raymond van Barneveld, born on April 20, 1967, in The Hague, is a Dutch professional darts player, nicknamed "Barney." He began his career as a player in the WDF/BDO and switched to the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in 2006. He is a five-time world champion, with four titles in the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and one in the PDC. Additionally, he won the world cup title three times in the World Darts Federation (WDF) and the European title in the WDF in 2004. Van Barneveld is one of only four players to have won world championships in both the BDO and PDC, and he is the only player to have won the world title in the BDO, PDC, and WDF. He has also won several televised tournaments. He has held the top position in the world rankings in both the BDO and PDC and was the first player to hit a 9-dart finish at the PDC World Darts Championship. In team events, Van Barneveld won the WDF Europe Cup twice (once with Co Stompé and once with Vincent van der Voort), the WDF World Cup once (with Vincent van der Voort), and the PDC World Cup of Darts four times (once with Co Stompé and three times with Michael van Gerwen), all representing the Netherlands. He also won the PDC World Pairs once with Roland Scholten. In terms of major tournament victories and career earnings, Van Barneveld is the most successful player in the history of the BDO.

Rise to Prominence and Successes

Van Barneveld previously worked as a postman at PTT. In 1995, he lost the BDO World Darts Championship final to Richie Burnett. However, in 1998, he faced Burnett again in the final, and this time he emerged as the winner. His sporting achievements contributed to the increasing popularity of darts in the Netherlands. An authorized biography about him was published on October 17, 2007.
