Chris Dobey: A Darts Journey from Bedlington to Fame

Chris Dobey, born on May 31, 1990, in Bedlington, is a skilled English darts player who has been competing in the PDC since 2015. Prior to that, he was part of the BDO from 2013 to 2015. This Englishman is no stranger to the world of darts, as he is a cousin of darter Callan Rydz.

Early Years in the BDO

Dobey began his darting career in the BDO and remained active there until 2018. In that year, he participated in the BDO World Darts Championship, marking a significant milestone in his journey. In 2020, after a two-year absence, Dobey returned to the BDO stage and competed in the Scottish Open 2020, where he showcased his skills, although he was eventually defeated in the last 64 by James Richardson. A notable achievement followed in 2021 when Dobey won the Welsh Open, a prestigious WDF tournament.

Transition to the PDC

Following his participation in the BDO World Darts Championship 2018, Dobey made a pivotal decision to transition to the PDC. This move marked a new chapter in his career, embarking on the challenging journey of PDC Q-School. Despite facing initial hurdles, Dobey persisted and consistently participated in the Q-School in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Although tour cards eluded him during that period, Dobey showcased his skills at events like the UK Open 2019 and UK Open 2020.

In 2021, Dobey celebrated a notable victory at the PDC Challenge Tour 12, emerging triumphant in the final by defeating Derek Coulson with an impressive score of 5-0. The year 2022 marked a significant breakthrough for Dobey, as he finally earned his long-awaited PDC tour card. His persistent efforts paid off, resulting in a successful eighth-place finish on the PDC Order of Merit during the UK Q-School.

Chris Dobey's darting journey through both the BDO and PDC circuits reflects his dedication, resilience, and passion for the game of darts.
